TOEIC Test Jakarta
Organizations from all over the world have been using the TOEIC® test to hire, place and promote employees since 1979, there are two commonly used TOEIC tests, the listening and reading test, which only tests a users receptive skills based on multiple choice questions. Personally I don’t feel that this test produces accurate results, so many Indonesian English users have good receptive skills, however they struggle when using the productive skills of speaking and writing. These are the most important skills to test.
The other version tests both writing and speaking and ignores the receptive skills, in order to create the most accurate TOEIC prediction test, English Today Jakarta has created our own test that includes reading, listening and speaking. We have left out the writing section because we can assess the students based on their speaking skills and it is also more cost effective for companies. As you will see, our Communicative Assessment is extremely detailed and accurate.
Overview of Communicative Assessment
Candidates will be assessed on a scale from 1- 6 in line with CEFR Levels A1 through to C2 for each competence assessment component. Scales are based on set communicative objectives (functions), descriptors and features (grammatical and lexical) for each level established by the Council of Europe, Cambridge English, ALTE, and the British Council and EQAUALS Core Language Inventory.

Each candidate will be given an opportunity to contribute to the discussion. During the discourse the Moderator listens for key grammatical and lexical features indicative of certain CEFR levels. The Moderator then scaffolds the discourse and will prompt the candidate with an individualized question to further provided the candidate with an opportunity to extend their language and showcase their communicative competence within a certain range.
The recorded footage of the discussion is viewed post discussion by the assessor who identifies communicative objectives and grammatical and lexical features in the candidates discourse and places him/her within a CEFR band range.
As candidates may fall within the same range, a detailed report including scores and assessor’s comments on each area of competence assessment is provided per candidate. This enables stakeholders identify the specific strengths and weaknesses of each individual candidate. Footage of the assessment is also provided to the stakeholder. This allows the stakeholder to correlate the marks and comments with the actual candidate discourse.
English Today Jakarta have used these tests with Bank Mandiri in providing an accurate test for their senior Management Development Screening Program, we assessed selected senior managers. Candidates were assessed on their levels of Communicative Competence within four competence areas: linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic.
