When choosing an English language provider for your company, it is important to ask questions about the method used. So here is the general breakdown of an English Today teaching method.

Each lesson is divided into 8 sections:

  • The Opening – Each lesson is opened in a different way to keep the classes interesting. The purpose of the opening is to grab the students’ attention.
  • Ice-Breaking – This part introduces the next section in a fun and exciting way (usually students are divided into teams and have to perform an active role) The focus here is to get the students actively moving as opposed to sitting passively in their seats.
  • Lead-In – This part checks the learners (KSA) Knowledge, Skills and Attitude about the target language. The teacher takes note of which students have a lower understanding than others and in later exercises places them with higher level students in order to make use of peer teaching.
  • Presentation – This focuses on Structure, Understanding of Meaning, Vocabulary and Sound Production and Contextual Application.
  • Controlled practice – This includes individual work activities, pair-work activities, group-work activities and whole class activities. This is called controlled practice because it focuses on the target language in a controlled manner making sure the students keep accuracy during the practice. The teacher uses the method of “Hot Correction” as soon as the student makes a mistake, the instructor quickly makes a correction controlling the learning process.
  • Semi-controlled practice – Like controlled practice this will includes all activities and is related to real-life contextual practice. In this part students have a little more freedom of expression and the teacher uses the “Warm Correction” method. This method allows the students to completely express themselves before receiving corrections.
  • Free-practice – We put students in situations of real-life practice with full autonomy- role plays and stimulations, problem-solving activities, interviews, project works, surveys and group and mingle activities. The aim of free-practice is to create practical real-life situations of the “Target Language” that the students will encounter in their daily activities.
  • Feedback and closing – The activities are evaluated to see how effective and enjoyable the learning process was, to check the learners understanding of each lesson and to find out why parts of the lesson were difficult to understand so the students can overcome them.
